Locating Charging Points In Google Maps

While manufacturers generally provide apps for their vehicles which will help with route planning via available charging stations, there will inevitably be times when these programmes will decide to have time off and leave yo in the lurch. Google Maps provides a nice fallback for EV owners.

  • On your mobile device (this cannot be done on a 'desktop' OS) open Google Maps
  • Tap on your profile icon
  • Tap on 'Settings'
  • Tap on 'Electric vehicle setting'
  • Tap on 'Add plugs'
  • Select the different type of plug(s) that apply to your vehicle(s)
  • Tap the back buttons until you reach the main screen
  • Scroll the categories seen under the search box until you find the one labelled '... More', then tap on it
  • Under the 'Services' section, tap on 'Electric vehicle charging'
  • Then select any options that you wish to apply
  • A list of applicable charging points will be displayed below. From the results, you can choose to add a charging point to your route by tapping on the routing icon.
