Fingerprint Reader GUI in Ubuntu

Install the PPA:

Linux Terminal:~$

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:fingerprint/fingerprint-gui && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libbsapi policykit-1-fingerprint-gui fingerprint-gui

After installation log off and back in to your system.

Installing the above may remove the default "policykit-gnome” from your system, if subsequently you remove the fingerprint PPA you will need to reinstall the package manually. Failure to do so may result in a broken system.

Once you have logged your fingerprints the reader will enable you to log in to the system, opening locked screens, running sudo etc. For full details on supported readers and so forth can be found here.
